SYRIAN REFUGEE CRISIS
Standing With Families Living Through Long-Term Displacement
Years after families first fled war, displacement continues to shape everyday life. OWR supports Syrian refugees where we can work safely and lawfully, particularly in Lebanon.

The War Changed. The Damage Did Not Disappear.
The fall of Syria’s former government changed the course of the conflict, but it did not suddenly rebuild homes, livelihoods or essential infrastructure. The country remains deeply damaged and security remains fragile.
Different armed and political actors continue to compete for influence in parts of Syria, while further military operations and bombardment have added to uncertainty. For displaced families, the question of returning is therefore far more complicated than simply crossing a border.
Years of Displacement
Syrian families in Lebanon continue to face poverty, insecure work, difficult housing, healthcare costs and pressure on children’s education. Some live in towns and cities; others remain in informal tented settlements, including in the Beqaa and around Arsal.
A crisis can disappear from headlines long before it disappears from family life.
Years of Working Alongside Syrian Communities
OWR’s connection with Syrian refugee communities goes back years. Our founders and volunteers have lived and worked alongside displaced Syrian families, particularly in Lebanon.
Some of those helping today also understand displacement from personal experience. That local knowledge helps us communicate directly, understand circumstances and respond practically rather than from a distance.

Where OWR Works
OWR does not currently operate or deliver aid inside Syria. Our Syrian Refugee Crisis work supports displaced Syrian families in places where we can operate safely and lawfully, particularly Lebanon, where our volunteers have longstanding relationships with refugee communities.
We are careful to distinguish the wider situation inside Syria from the locations where OWR itself is actively delivering support.
