ONE WORLD RELIEF – TERMS OF DONATION

1. Introduction

Thank you for supporting One World Relief.

We are committed to delivering humanitarian relief, poverty alleviation, and emergency response with integrity, transparency, and accountability.

By donating to One World Relief, you agree to the terms below, which ensure your donation is used responsibly, ethically, and in accordance with UK charity law.

We welcome accountability at all levels, whether donations are large or small. Our guiding principle is simple: ethical stewardship and genuine impact matter more than scale.

2. Use of Donations

Donations are applied in line with our charitable objectives and donor designations.

Restricted donations are applied to the specific project, country, or appeal selected.

Unrestricted donations are used where need is greatest across our programmes.

We always aim to honour donor intent. However, where a project is completed, delayed, or fully funded, funds will be managed under our surplus and reallocation policy (Section 6).

3. “100% Donation” Commitment & Enhanced Impact Model

Where we refer to a “100% donation policy”, this means:

100% of restricted donations are directed to charitable project delivery.

In addition to this, One World Relief operates an enhanced impact model, meaning:

  • Restricted donations fund project delivery in full
  • Administrative costs are covered separately through unrestricted funding, Gift Aid, and dedicated support contributions
  • Where available, surplus unrestricted funds, Gift Aid, and volunteer-supported contributions may also be used to enhance and expand project delivery beyond the original scope

This means that in many cases, the total value delivered to beneficiaries may exceed the original donation value through combined funding streams.

We do not deduct administrative costs from restricted donations.

4. Zakat Donations (Multi-School Governance Approach)

Zakat donations are treated as strictly restricted and are handled with particular care.

We recognise the diversity of scholarly opinion across Islamic schools of thought. Our trustees are educated across multiple jurisprudential perspectives and apply Zakat distribution principles with the intention of:

  • Respecting classical and contemporary scholarly interpretations
  • Ensuring valid Zakat eligibility criteria are met
  • Maintaining inclusive and responsible distribution practices

Zakat funds are:

  • Fully segregated from non-Zakat funds
  • Applied only to eligible recipients
  • Never used for administrative or operational costs

Where Zakat projects are completed or overfunded, remaining funds will be redirected only to other eligible Zakat-appropriate distributions.

5. Direct Project Costs

Donations used for project delivery may include all costs necessary for implementation, including:

  • Procurement of goods and supplies
  • Transportation and logistics
  • Storage and warehousing
  • Field distribution and implementation
  • Local coordination and delivery oversight

In some cases, additional funding from unrestricted donations, Gift Aid, or volunteer-supported contributions may be applied to enhance project delivery and efficiency.

6. Surplus, Reallocation & Project Continuity

Where a restricted appeal raises surplus funds or cannot be fully utilised as originally intended:

  • Funds will be prioritised for the same project type (e.g. water for water, food for food)
  • If not required, they may be used for closely related humanitarian needs within the same programme area
  • Trustee discretion is applied with ethical principles, donor intent, and humanitarian urgency in mind

All decisions are made:

  • In good faith
  • With ethical responsibility
  • In alignment with universal humanitarian and moral values shared by donors

Where practicable, we will attempt to communicate significant changes to donors. If communication is not possible, trustees may proceed with automatic ethical reallocation to ensure funds are used effectively and without delay.

7. Underfunded Projects

If a project does not reach full funding:

  • Trustees may supplement funding from unrestricted reserves or alternative donations
  • Project scope may be adjusted to ensure meaningful impact within available resources

We aim to ensure all donations result in tangible humanitarian outcomes.

8. Administrative & Sustainability Funding

Administrative, safeguarding, compliance, governance, and operational costs are funded through:

  • Unrestricted donations
  • Gift Aid (which may be used flexibly for both administrative and charitable purposes)
  • Dedicated support contributions

Gift Aid is treated as flexible charitable income and may be allocated based on organisational and operational need.

9. Trustee Discretion & Ethical Framework

The Board of Trustees holds ultimate responsibility for all funds and charitable activities.

All decisions are made:

  • In good faith
  • In accordance with UK charity law
  • Guided by ethical principles and humanitarian values
  • With respect for diverse religious and moral perspectives of donors

This ensures flexibility in operations while maintaining full accountability and governance integrity.

10. Delegation to Operational Leadership

One World Relief operates with a trusted network of senior volunteer leaders, field coordinators, and in-house managers who may be delegated responsibility for operational decision-making at a local project level.

This delegation is carried out under the authority and oversight of the Board of Trustees and is intended to ensure:

  • Effective and timely delivery of humanitarian assistance
  • Local responsiveness to urgent needs
  • Efficient implementation in the field
  • Appropriate cultural and contextual decision-making

All delegated decisions remain subject to:

  • Trustee oversight and governance
  • Organisational policies and safeguarding standards
  • Alignment with approved project objectives and budgets

Ultimate fiduciary responsibility for all funds and charitable activity remains with the Board of Trustees.

11. Transparency & Accountability

We are committed to full transparency and accountability.

We actively welcome questions, scrutiny, and feedback from donors at all levels.

Donors may contact us at any time regarding:

  • Donation use
  • Project allocation
  • Financial governance
  • Impact reporting

We believe accountability strengthens trust and improves outcomes.
